Join us to hear from Johan Verbeke, former Ambassador of Belgium and  Special Representative of the UN Secretary General. This eminent diplomat’s final postings as Ambassador were in New York, where he represented Belgium in the Security Council, then London and finally Washington. He will be discussing his experience and views on diplomacy, some of which he has recently shared in two books: Diplomacy in Practice – A Critical Approach and Diplomatic Skills – The Basics.

Verbeke is a visiting professor at the Universities of Brussels (VUB) and Lille (UCL, France) where he teaches master classes in diplomacy. He is a senior fellow with Egmont – The Royal Institute for International Relations in Brussels. He has been a diplomat for 35 years living and working in the Middle East, Central Africa, South America, the Caucasus and the US. He has been the Chief of Staff of two Ministers of Foreign Affairs and was a Special Representative of the UN Secretary General. Verbeke is a graduate from the Yale Law School.
