Biography:
Professor Katarzyna Gromek-Broc is Professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Pavia, Italy. She teaches and researches in EU Law, Migration Policy and Human Rights, Law of Regional Integration, Energy Transition and selected aspects of Environmental Law. Prior to joining the University of Pavia, Professor Gromek-Broc held academic appointments in the United Kingdom at the University of Hull and subsequently at the University of York, where she was a founding member of the York Law School. During her academic career in the UK, she held a number of leadership positions, including Director of Postgraduate Programmes, Head of Postgraduate Admissions, and Senior Advisor on Academic Affairs. In recognition of her academic achievements, she was awarded the prestigious Vloeberghs Chair in Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium, in 2019.
Professor Gromek-Broc has received numerous competitive research awards and grants, including funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) in 2003 and the British Academy in 2004. She was also awarded a Strategic Fund grant in 2006 for research on discrimination and received support from the Sir James Reckitt Charitable Foundation for several research initiatives. In addition, since 2017, she has successfully secured Jean Monnet and Erasmus+ funding for European educational and research projects. Most recently, she has collaborated with NATO on the Stability Policing Issue. She has published widely including five books in EU Law and the corresponding fields.
Her international academic experience spans Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. She has held visiting professorships and research appointments at institutions including the Institute of European Studies in Macau, Golden Gate University in San Francisco, Stetson University College of Law in Florida, and several other leading universities worldwide.
