Biography:

Dr Jorge Freddy Milian Gómez is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Lecturer at the Brussels Diplomatic Academy. His research focuses on food law and policy, agricultural law, the human right to food, food diplomacy, sustainable food systems, and the governance challenges associated with food security and sustainability transitions.

He holds a PhD in Law from VUB and a PhD in Legal Sciences from the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas (Cuba), where his doctoral research examined the legal configuration of the right to food. His work adopts an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective, exploring the intersection between law, governance, sustainability, human rights, and agri-food systems.

Dr Milian Gómez has published extensively in international journals and edited volumes on food law, food diplomacy, sustainability, environmental governance, agricultural production, and human rights. He is currently Co-Promotor of the TrueFoodS Project, funded under the FutureFoodS Partnership and co-funded by Horizon Europe, which examines sustainability, equity, governance, and resilience in European food systems. He is currently the Co-Director of the International Joint Research Group in Agrifood Law and Food Systems at VUB.  He is an active member of several international academic and professional networks, including the World Union of Agricultural Law, the International Law Association (Belgian Branch), and the Food Law Academics Network (FLAN). His teaching and research activities aim to strengthen the links among law, policy, diplomacy, and the transformation of sustainable food systems.
