Short Bio
Dr. Filip Batselé is an international lawyer and legal historian, with a particular expertise in international economic law. He works as a policy officer for international trade and investment at the Flanders Chancellery and Foreign Office (DKBUZA), next to being a voluntary scientific collaborator at the Contextual Research in Law (CORE) group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and course titular for international investment law at the Brussels Diplomatic Academy. He holds a PhD (2023) in Laws from Ghent University and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), as well as an LL.M. from The Fletcher School at Tufts University (US). His PhD research dealt with the history of bilateral investment treaty (BITs) programs, focusing on the politics and law concerning early BIT negotiations. His overall research agenda deals with selected aspects of the recent history of international economic law. His work has been published in journals such as the European Journal of International Law, Business and Politics and the Swiss Review of International Law.
