This Business Round Table (BRT) aims to support the Embassy of India’s program of Public Diplomacy as the country celebrates important milestones in its independence and diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. More specifically, the BRT will provide a forum for high level discussions regarding boosting investment and trade between India and the EU. The event brings together persons from a cross section of the Belgian and European business community who have an interest in doing business in India, as well as representatives of EU Institutions, Think Tanks and NGOs. Speakers and participants will engage in moderated exchanges involving two panels of Indian and European experts around the Indian government’s new initiative of “Make in India” and to significantly increase Indian exports to Europe. The EU is already India’s largest trading partner and investor, particularly in the transfer of technology, but there is scope to dramatically increase the volume and value of trade between the two in a manner which benefits both sides. While an EU-India FTA has been under discussion for some time, the recent relaunch of the FTA negotiations and separate agreements on Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) and Geographical Indications (GI) Agreement provides a fresh impetus from both sides to reinvigorate trade and economic ties between India and the EU.
