Short bio:

Fabienne is a professor of intellectual property, media law and ICT law at the University of Brussels (VUB). She also lectures at the University of Leuven (KUL) in the Advanced Master in Intellectual Property Rights & ICT.

Fabienne has an extensive practical experience. She particularly specialises in copyright, media and new technology (including software and database protection) but she also works regularly in the areas of trademarks, design rights, unfair trade practices and data protection. She advises and defends copyright and neighbouring rights holders, such as producers, publishers, broadcasters and some well-known artists, as well as some collective management organisations. She conducts several high level litigations and assists clients in their negotiations and with the drafting of contracts, advising them both on the legal-technical and strategic aspects.

Fabienne is also a CEPINA approved arbitrator for domain-name disputes and a CEPINA approved ICT-mediator.

After having been the chair of the “Belgian Association for Copyright” (ABA/BVA) for more than 14 years, Fabienne has been elected as the Secretary General of the “Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale” (ALAI). Fabienne is also appointed as an expert-member of the Intellectual Property Council (the advisory organ to the Belgian federal minister competent for intellectual property rights) and acts as the vice-chair of its Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Division. She is a member of the editorial Board of the legal review “Auteurs & Media“.

She has authored many articles and books on copyright and is a regular speaker at national and international events.
