The Climate Change Dialogues – the first of the Global Affairs Leadership series at the BDA – were launched on 03 February at the Brussels Press Club. The full-house event was moderated by Global Affairs Advisor Ambassador Dr. Len Ishmael with welcome remarks delivered by BDA Director Gunter Gaublomme. The two were joined on stage once again by Nobel Laureate Professor William Moomaw and mechanical engineer Patrick Martel – straight out of Davos 2020. Ambassador Ishmael moderated wide-ranging discussions around the themes: Post-Madrid and COP 25 ; the broken promises and higher ambitions which now lead to Glasgow & COP 26; the European Green Deal; the political sustainability of ‘Green’ policies; the ‘green washing’ which is evident in some quarters, and the reason why the ‘Friday’s for Future” wave of youth activism gives us cause for hope- even as the extreme weather events of 2019 and the bush fires still burning in Australia – provide so many reasons for deep worry and concern that the Climate Emergency-is all too real. The audience comprised persons from NATO, Think Tanks, Academia, Business, Diplomacy, Security & Defense, Media, NGOs and others.
