Canada belongs to the G7, has wide ranging economic freedom and greatly resembles the market-oriented economy of the United States. Canada remains Europe’s biggest trading partner after the United States. More and more Canadian companies realise the importance of making their trade more diverse and less dependent on the United States.
The Canadian economy has seen sustained growth since 2010, and the Bank of Canada estimated growth in 2017 to have been 3.1%. It is a service oriented-economy and more than three quarters of the population work in the service sector. Canada is a mineral rich country (mining: gold, nickel, uranium, diamonds, lead…) and has a strong agriculture and forestry sector.
Whilst trade with the US grew again in 2017, and amounts to more than 75% of Canada’s exports, Europe remains Canada’s second largest trading partner. More and more Canadian companies realise the importance of making their trade more diverse and less dependent on the United States.
In order to find out what’s possible, and where the best opportunities in Canada lie, the Brussels Diplomatic Academy of the VUB, Voka Metropolitan, Voka Vlaams-Brabant and CanCham Belux are organising an Ambassador Lunch.
